A tale of two appointments
When I realized that Mom and I had appointments the same day, I was tickled pink! I would only have to take off one time. Then I looked at the times. 2:30 pm for me and 2:50 for her... 15 minutes across town. And I am the one who drives.. My smile went to a straight line. "I can make this work."
I asked Mom to be ready to LEAVE at 1:30 so I could drop her off at the Vitreoretinal Surgeon. (I had to look it up as he only has MD on the Eye Center South website. But I knew he was more that that. THE MAN TAUGHT AT DUKE UNIVERSITY for Pete's sake!) Anyway, dropping her off a little after 2pm would not normally be a big deal. The reception ladies are all super cool. It takes less time to get Mom in a wheelchair and push her than it would take for her to walk up the "handicapped access" ramp. I got her inside and signed in at 2:16. I had her Mercury Marquis "skint back" as they say.. I called my Dr. and told them I would be late. I signed in at 2:31. Yay me! LOL.
I was diagnosed ADD in 2003-2005-ish. I was prescribed straterra and it worked pretty well. No side effects. Since my divorce in 2009, I have used the Veterans Administration Healthcare System. The VA would not pay for straterra. My options were ritalin and welbutrin (off label). I wanted to be able to order my meds online and allow my parents to forward them through the USPS to wherever I happened to be working at the time, (Heavy industrial construction welding), so I ended up with welbutrin. It helped. Just not a whole lot, My original VA doctor didn't want to change my meds when I asked in 2019. She went on emergency leave then retired and I got a new one. At this point I had not seen any doctor for over a year. I explain during our initial phone consult that I want to change meds. He acted confused why I would go from Straterra to Welbutrin.. But, he was ready to change my meds.. he wanted me to wean myself off my welbutrin over the next week, but I had to come back the next day for bloodwork since my bloodwork was over a year old... Waiting on the new meds. I can't wait.
When I arrived back at Mom's Dr., Mom was waiting to see him after her eyes had been dilated. Good thing, too. I was there to hear the doctor tell her she needed another shot in her eye because she had more swelling. (Macular degeneration can get bad if you don't keep ahead of it.) She at first refused. Then I "told" her she was getting the shot today and asked her if she wanted to go blind. She conceded. Got the shot. As the Dr. left, he quietly thanked me.
Thanks for reading. I have some philosophy thoughts coming..
