Week 28 Recap, BUIDL

Week 28 Recap, BUIDL

By Mike Bivens | Journey to Web3 | 22 Aug 2022

This was my last week of travel, and it also happened to be the longest I've gone without internet or cell service since I was probably a kid. I was not expecting to be without either of these for nearly the entire week so building on the momentum from the previous week did not happen. I did my best with what time and internet I did have as you'll find below. Thankfully I had downloaded quite a few web pages and podcasts that I was able to access while I was deep in the mountains.

Here's what I was learning this week:

  • Calling an API more than once with a single click
  • Reviewing basic smart contract security practices
  • Understanding smart contract vulnerabilities

<usual_enterance> If you're new here I'm creating this blog series as I go from coding newbie to working in web3. I'm creating this to reflect on the technical and non-technical growth and to leave it behind for others who might be interested in how they can follow a similar path. </usual_enterance>

In this week's recap:

This Week:

  • Supportive Content
  • Polygon BUIDL IT
  • Road to Web3 Analytics
  • Job Search
  • What's Next

Polygon BUIDL IT

My efforts this week were focused on the front-end, I built out the basic Next.js setup to get it going and outlined a couple of pages for content focuses. There were also some last minute plans made after discussing what was reasonable to have accomplished at the time of the submission deadline (which is tomorrow at 5pm EST).

Road to Web3 Analytics

I finally had the time to build out the double API call to Kudos to pull all the owners of the student pass NFT. I tested this out and it is working to pull all the contract addresses we need. I don't love how this function looks so if anyone has any ideas of how this can look better, I would love the feedback.

Job Search

I did a final update to some of my application materials like updating my website and resume, as well as reviewing a number of job boards that web3 postings are more frequent. I've built a tracker to help manage this search and the process is now underway with the first application submitted.

What's Next?

With my hiking trips/travelling finally being over I can have consistent internet and dedicated coding time again to work on the side projects. The Polygon BUIDL IT project won't be completed by the submission deadline (tomorrow) but I'll keep at it to get to a basic version that I can use as proof of my skills. Ideally this could be wrapped up before the next hackathon starts up that I'm slated to participate in. I'll get the front-end as far as I can for the hack and then submit it. I'll need to assess this project and re-strategize how to proceed. I'll also be looking to create a feature roadmap for the TheDrop this week to have a formalized plan to follow and share in the newsletter. Road to Web3 Analytics is back in the hands of the partner for the next phase so I'll talk with them and wait to see when they might finish. I don't have plans for WAGMI Squad stuff this week. Supportive content will continue to be focused on smart contract security. Most importantly this week will be keeping up with the search process.

No stretch goals to define this week.

Journey to Web3
Journey to Web3

I am using this blog to talk about my experiences from pre-software development boot camp towards entering the Web3 ecosystem. I'll share thoughts and what I'm learning, reflect on the journey, and share informational interviews for others to follow along.
