Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a battle using a specific card and on this week's post it is the Gem Meteor card. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.
Featured Monster: Gem Meteor

Gem Meteor is a neutral splinter card that costs 5 mana. It starts with scattershot and learns the piercing at level 4. It's a damage dealer with decent speed but I find the attacking lacking. For a 5 mana card, it doesn't look that strong when there are alternatives like Blood Maker in the fire deck. I generally don't really use this card because it doesn't deal much damage even if it is fast.
Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is back to basics and briar patch. This means that all monsters lose their abilities and melee monsters get hurt by thorns. There is also 40 mana available and I am left with every splinter except for dragon.

The summoner I choose to use this time is Yodin Zaku In a match like this, I think that the +1 health will increase the survivability and the +1 ranged damage and blast will increase the damage my opponent takes. The only downside is that it limits the level of the cards that I can use.

My plan is to have a tank up top with some armor then have my ranged monsters deal more damage in the back. There are no abilities and I avoided using a decent amount of melee monsters due to the thorns.
Round 1

At the first glance of my opponent's lineup, I don't like my chances due to all the fast magic damage my opponent has. It doesn't help that my opponent also have a +1 armor and +1 speed for his summoner buff.
Round 2

I lost my main tank before it could even attack and the 4 shield it has was worthless. My opponent lost his first two monsters but I am not liking my chances due to the fast speed and magic damage can't miss.
Round 3

My strongest monster couldn't even attack and I missed a few attacks as well. So it looks like this is the end of the match for me. I don't think there is a chance for me to win given all the magic damage.

As I expected, I lost the match. It was tough to deal with all the fast magic damage that my opponent had on his side. It may have been closer the +1 armor from his summoner wasn't there.
Conclusion
The battle this time did not go as I expected. I missed quite a few attacks and his armor definitely decreased the damage he took from the blast damage. On top of that, the +1 speed made his team way faster than me and I was left without much way to win the match. Sometimes Yodin just doesn't work out and there were a lot of monsters that died before even getting a chance to land an attack.
Yodin did help to an extent but I was severely outmatched as I was facing those fast magic monsters. The extra damage is appreciated but it just doesn't help that much when dealing with so many magic monsters. It doesn't help that the back to the basics also remove the close combat ability my two backup tanks had. So my opponent did a great job and it's definitely a water summoner I need to get if I want to stay competitive.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
