Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because of I used Hugo Strongsword.
Featured cards
Hugo Strongsword is a life splinter that costs 5 mana. This card is a gladiator, and it starts with bloodlust and shield. It learns heal at level 6 and enrage at level 9. This is a fairly good tank, and I do use this card from time to time. There might be better options, but the reduced physical damage and healing makes it quite powerful when you aren't up against magic monsters. I have this card at level 6 so it has the healing ability.
Rule set, Battle and Plan
The ruleset this time is Melee Mayhem and Heavy Metal. This means only monsters with armor can be used, and melee monsters can attack from any position. There are also 12 mana available, and I can choose water, life, and death splinter.
I use Franz Ruffmane as my summoner for the +1 armor. My only monster is Hugo Strongsword because of the low mana cap, and my choices are limited when I can only pick monsters with armor. I don't have any other monsters that fit my lineup after using Hugo Strongsword. So my strategy in this fight is to outlast my opponent with the reduced damage plus heals.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that I have the win in the bag. My opponent can only deal 1 damage per turn to me because his tank can't deal any damage to me. With the heal ability on Hugo, this damage will be recovered every single turn. So there isn't anything my opponent can do in this fight. It will just take time for my monster to kill off the monsters and win this match.
I ended up winning this match a few rounds later, as I expected. There wasn't anything my opponent could do as I healed up all the damage. It just took quite a few rounds to kill off the monsters though.
Conclusion
The battle this time played out how I wanted it to. My entire focus was to outlast my opponent and slowly kill off my opponent. With the armored units, there aren't many magic monsters available to people. So I felt comfortable choosing Hugo as my tank. Even if there was a magic monster, so long as it didn't do more than 2 damage per turn, I would be able to outlast my opponent. There wasn't much my opponent could do once the melee monsters were used because I could heal any damage done by my opponent. Hugo was the only splinter that I used, but it worked out just as I intended.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
