The "Living Under The Rock" Millionaires

$392 million have been spent this year in the so called metaverse just by putting reality (AR) headsets on and walking down the alley of the "so called metaverses".

Now will have to quote @taskmaster4450 once again on the metaverses, that "we don't actually know how will these look like and work" and that we are decades away from them to actually become a reality. Nevertheless, millionaires and companies are already spending in the metaverse.

Balenciaga, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, Gucci and Louis Vuitton are already launching digital collections and believe it or not there are folks spending tons of money on yachts equipped with jacuzzi that are supposed to be used in the metaverse.

So far, according to, Decentraland seems to be the place where most of the richie rich of blockchain are spending tons of money. Axie Infinity worth mentioning as well.

So, what are people actually spending that much cash on?

Metaverse Group, a subsidiary of, purchased a 116-parcel estate in Decentraland’s Fashion Street district for ~$2.4 million (618k MANA) on Nov 23. Republic Realm, a digital real estate firm, purchased 259 parcels of land in Decentraland’s Metajuku district for ~$914k (1.3mn MANA) on Jun 18. Axie Infinity, a play-to-earn gaming platform, announced on Nov 24 that it had sold a “Genesis” plot of digital land – one of 220 – for ~$2.3 million (550ETH).

Worth mentioning is also "that guy" who bought a plot of virtual land near Snoop Dogg's metaverse mansion for $450,000. It's probably gonna be a deal in a few years from now, but spending all that cash now on such properties is surely a risky bet. It's probably similar to buying land in Manhattan 250 years ago, but we don't know yet how metaverses will actually work and where this tech is heading.

Remote work is gaining more and more traction and blockchains like Hive which make possible to have a living out of the payouts from content posted around here are for sure a reality that's not going to fade away any time soon.

The digital realm that gains a lot of traction thanks to NFTs is deemed for almost endless expansion, but at the same time I'm not really that excited about that because it takes away the flavor of living real life, of actually sailing that yacht on real waves and wearing the damn Balenciagas on your feet.

Nevertheless, I can not overlook the business opportunities and entrepeneurialship such augmented reality blended with blockchain technology might offer. It will for sure make some things easier than they currently are, but as with every piece of tech, the problem comes when it becomes addictive and steals the reality around you, from you.
