Cryptocurrency exchanges, whether small or big, regional or global, are failing and falling on an almost monthly basis now. The past month there were two more popular platforms that spiraled themselves into financial difficulties and caused panic among their users, but were quick to promise they could "guarantee operations would resume as normal."
And you know what, there is fundamentally not all that much wrong with using a CEX every now and then. What is 100% wrong in all this, are the people who are just too lazy to learn and understand crypto and all it's possibilities and then just use that very same CEX where they started out with as their main access point to cryptocurrencies, as their main staking option, as their main storage point aka wallet aka they never even have their own wallet. Well done, way to overblow and prop up these CEXes to the point of a bubble-like explosion which will leave you and many others losing all their cryptos while creating a few CEX billionaires in the process.
So yeah, ultimately we are over-CEXed and need to scale down on an exchange or two, but before we go celebrate the centralized demise, know this: Every fallen exchange will consequently also take down the entire market, but more importantly CEXes are failing because of their own nature. They don't need any outside meddling or threats to make their unnatural coexistence alongside Bitcoin complicated. But DEXes and the providers/developers/technology behind it are nowadays being threatened, sanctioned and imprisoned on an unprecedented scale.
Maybe TORN is not a CEX or any kind of exchange for that matter, but it ultimately adheres to the core principle of Bitcoin: "an electronic payment system based on cryptographic proof instead of trust, allowing any two willing parties to transact directly with each other without the need for a trusted third party."
In comes them gauvement "Oh no, but you do need us Alexey, we are keeping them criminals away and keeping you safe, really, that's all we do, so hand over the secrets to your technology so we can abuse it and spy on- and extort foreign governments, political opponents, disobedient journalists and more"
Alexey: "But there is no secret or access I can give you, taking TORN out of the internet is like taking pee out of a pool. If it's in there, it stays there, unless you completely drain the pool aka shut down internet globally."
Them gauvement: "Gawd, that's next to impossible, just like finding that Satoshi guy. Hmmmm, OK, we'll just 'Julian Assange' you instead and make an example out of you and your future kind. Call our submissive puppets in The Hague and have them make up some fake laughable case."
You get the idea I think, centralization is control, control is the authoritarian's right hand. So in a world where centralized exchanges rule yet are failing continuously, where decentralized protocols are trying to rise while being pushed down continuously, we must never forget those that betrayed the revolution and either sided or caved in to authoritarian control. We must use our brains and not be misled by our emotions, don't blindly go uninstalling MetaMask just because you are being spied on via the regular settings or because you can't interact with TORN anymore, find ways around it either with Metamask or any other wallet that allows you to configure your way to decentralization.
