Recently, there were 2 MIT students that had created a BTC miner that was able to conjoin over 10,000 laptops in a network (Electronically) to mine bitcoin for them. This was done at the MIT Campus and resulted in these miners generating $42,000 overnight from all these computers working over the cloud. They had attached some sort of background BTC miner onto each website that a user on the MIT network might access. This included google, youtube, and 1000+ websites. MIT is not pressing charges but rather hailing this as some sort of technological revolution that showcases how smart their students are. The network has since been reversed and everything is back to normal.
I personally am not all for it. I wouldn't want my laptop's resources being exploited for the profit of some college student. Especially if I were attending MIT. I'd expect them to get consequences. Alot of people disagree as to whether these now adults should receive punishment or not. I say they should but most people say they shouldn't which is likely why MIT had chosen to take this specific course of action. They're siding with the public and not with private interests which is a first for the uni that likes to accept generous donations.....haha. In all seriousness though what they did was pretty creative and genuinely deserves an applause. It harmed no one and caused no damage. Props to them for finding a non damaging way to exploit laptops on a campus of such a scale.
That's all for today gents, cheers.
