I have seen so many articles on here with everyone trying to nickle and dime Braves popularity talking about the new Sponsored Images. But all these articles are lacking information so I wanted to write an article to update everyone on the actual details of the Sponsored Images campaign.
** This is a PSA so please do not tip this post**
As of February 12th, 2020 Sponsored Images is live for all Brave Browsers (desktop and mobile).
First off the bat, the Sponsored Image is a company's choice of picture with their logo in the bottom of the screen. If you click on that logo you will be taken to their sponsored webpage that will tell you more about said product they are advertising.
These Sponsored Images will show for every one of Brave's 11 million monthly users regardless of if they signed up for Brave Rewards. If the user is signed up for Brave Rewards then they will earn 70% of the Ad revenue showing that image to you. So say a company pays $100,000 to show a Sponsored Image 100,000 times. That means each time the image is shown the ad revenue is $1. If you were to view said image you would earn 70% of that $1 or $0.70. That is only for example and I would image each image view is probably around .05 BAT as that is what the notification ads are worth.
BlockFi is the 1st Sponsored Image campaign and is only available in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. There was Western Digital ad campaign on mobile, before Sponsored Images went live for Desktop. That also had an accompanying notification based ad that was a survey asking more questions about the ad. So I would gather that was a test campaign to gauge interest and we might see more of that later.
Brave lets you check on how much BAT you are going to earn each month as you view the notification ads. But this amount is NOT including the BAT you are earning from Sponsored Images.
Anybody can turn off Sponsored Images if they would prefer.
Currently there are 3 images that BlockFi rotates in. You will see the Sponsored Image every 4 new Tabs on Mobile and Desktop.
Here are the different Images that are shown:
My personal interpretation is that in order to "earn" the 70% ad revenue for each image that the user needs to click on the company's logo in the bottom left (or middle if on mobile) and be taken to their page. Because that is how the notification ads work. I could be wrong but Brave hasn't explicitly stated either way.
