Boy throwing a ball - pencil drawing

Inktober Day 9: Throw

By DoctorPlatypus | Doctor Platypus | 10 Oct 2020

Today's #inktober prompt was "Throw" and I thought seriously about drawing one of those Jack O'Lanterns that is arranged with the chips and guac to look like it is barfing up the guac, you know? And then I thought maybe I would be a little more wholesome for this prompt, and I drew this kid throwing a ball.

So, the editor is smooshing the picture again, which almost certainly means he will appear rotated 90 degrees, which is a bit sad. I figured out how to make the thumb images work properly though, so at least that image will be oriented upright.

On the whole, I am pretty happy with how this one came out. I could spend more time on the fabric - work on the folds in his sweatshirt and the wrinkles in his shorts, etc, and I think his legs may be a little short in proportion to his overall body, although that could be an illusion caused by how low his sweatshirt hangs down on him. If I had drawn a background, I could have erased the bold outlines on the entire figure. But I am pretty happy with the energy of the overall pose, and especially with the way his arm came out - I think I got the forshortening close to right and his fingers are probably more successful than I have been drawing fingers in the past.

Lots of room, as always, for improvement. But this one, this one was fun!

Thanks for looking :D
