Inktober Day 5: Blade

By DoctorPlatypus | Doctor Platypus | 6 Oct 2020

Today's #inktober prompt was "Blade" and I thought really hard about drawing the hair of this dude I knew in college, and then I was real tempted by a King Arthur, sword in the stone, sort of thing. In the end, I decided to keep it relatively simple, and here's my drawing for today:

hunting knife - pencil drawing

Again, today, the act of putting this on screen has revealed in my eye a bunch of ways I can improve it. I think the lighter-shaded portion of the actual knife blade needs to extend further toward the tip, for example, and the ovalish shapes on the handle don't look as much like wood grain as I hoped they would, which is a bit of a disappointment for me, given how much time I spent drawing wood grain this summer. Haha.

As always, thanks for taking a look at my drawing :D
