Many years and many pounds ago, I went on a date to the Higgins Armory Museum, because that is the specific sort of geek that is me. I grieved when they closed. But when they were still open, they had a pretty extensive collection of medieval and newer armor, as well as a set of replicas that they would let you try on. Obviously, I wasn't getting out of there without trying something on... Here is a photo of me wearing one of their helmets, and the sketch I drew using that photo for reference.
The photo:
And here is my sketch:
As always, looking at them together, I see things I could do differently - I exaggerated the angle of the head a little, and of course I more or less completely interpellated the pattern on my sweater.
My main goal with this exercise was to try to capture the face inside the helmet and have it still be sort of recognizable as the same person (in this case me, but you can't REALLY tell it's me even in the photo). I am pretty happy with how the nose came out, and while I could add some shading to the lips I think they are pretty solid, too. On the whole I am pretty happy with this one.
I hope everyone's having a great week :D
