I have donated thousands of hours to helping build different crypto/blockchain focused projects since I first found Bitcoin in late 2010/early 2011. I started my NFT journey on WAX last year and it has been a landslide since. The WAX community is still very small but extremely supportive of their members. It really does remind me of the early days of crypto, spending hours every day lurking on Bitcointalk.org to find posts from Satoshi and others, and having a sense of community with a shared purpose.
While WAX NFTs can be used for just about anything (art, utility, games, etc.) I seemed to have found an outlet for a minor passion project of my own. Over the last few years, I have put a lot of time into the growing and preservation of endangered species of cacti, specifically the Trichocereus cactus genus. (If any botanists are reading this, I guess there is an argument between the old trichocereus name and the new echinopsis name, but you see which side I fall on haha)
Long term, I would love to be able to utilize the functionality that is provided by the WAX blockchain and their major partners like AtomicHub and NeftyBlocks to build a sort of public database for cactus strains, documentation of their features and attributes, as well as document growing conditions and their population growth. Currently, almost none of this data is available for the trichocereus genus except through obscure sources and small communtiy groups on facebook and other social platforms. It might be a bit of a grandiose view on things but WAX has removed the barriers to entry for artists with a purpose and I am one of those people so I just thought it would be important to share. Below are a couple of my initial sketches.
Admittedly, I am still learning so my art is a bit capped. With that in mind, if anyone is inspired by this series, please reach out. I would be happy to add a schema with your name as the artist and start funneling art into this collection with a split distribution of income to anyone who contributes. If you look, all of the art is prices pretty low. Its not about making money, its about a passion and a purpose.
