La vara en México es símbolo de recibir disciplina (sobretodo en la infancia), pero también la recordamos toda la vida como algo a veces amargo, por eso la expresión "aguantar vara" significa que una persona debe cumplir sus compromisos aunque eso le signifique sacrificios y dolores con tal de cumplir con sus deberes u obligaciones.

También se usa para pedir paciencia y aguante ante las dificultades con la esperanza de que vendrán tiempos mejores.
