Eating Robots

Today I would like to introduce you to a really blatant topic: eating robots. You probably think this is still a dream of the future but far from it.

In 2004, Bristol Ecobot II was developed at the University of the West of England, which converts dead flies into electricity.

The third generation feeds on microbes in dirty water that it cleans and makes drinkable.

It all sounds very harmless if it wasn't for the military. Since 2009, the American military has had a biomass feeding autonomous robot called EATR it was designed for long-term missions. Officially EATR is pure vegetarian so don't worry he won't eat you but moment flies aren't biomass too.......

The robot was driven by a steam engine built by Cyclone Power Technologies, called Cyclone Waste Heat Engine, which generated electricity by external combustion of biomass (i.e. combustion outside the engine), an example of a Rankine cycle engine. The engine would drive the movement of the vehicle and simultaneously charge the batteries that power the sensors, arms and accessories
