Most people have heard of Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain, but there are other promising blockchains with smart contract capabilities which are worth a look.

Hathor
Named after the Egyptian goddess, Hathor (HTR) is a feeless smart contract platform based on the concept of the Ph.D. thesis of the founder Marcelo Brogliato who is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Hathor used something called merged mining, meaning you mine BTC and Hathor at the same time. The network gains significant hashing power by plugging into Bitcoin’s existing infrastructure. That way it also keeps its carbon footprint small. Transactions are arranged in a DAG (Directed Acyclic Graphs) instead of Merkle Trees. According to their website the blockchain can manage 200+ tps (transactions per second). You can also create your own token in under a minute. If you are a fan of NFTs, then Hathor might be interesting for you as there are a lot of projects being built there.
It is still pre-viral, even in the crypto world many people still haven't heard of it. But it is already in the top 200 on Coingecko, so has already proven itself to some degree. The easiest way to buy the HTR token is KuCoin with a lot of liquidity. Gate.io is another alternative to buy this coin. As HTR cannot be staked due to its Proof-of-Work nature, so you can only make money through price increase.

Cronos
Similarly to the Binance Coin (BNB) from Binance, the exchange Crypto.com has established their own blockchain called Cronos. The token is called CRO and is used for gas fees. It is EVM compatible and therefore can easily be added via MetaMask. Compared to 1 year ago it has pumped by over 800%. So you are not very early anymore but it still has good growth potential. Crypto.com is a big exchange who will make sure it will be a success. To get started check out all farming opportunities at Defillama.com

Pulsechain
Pulsechain, a Proof-of-Stake blockchain, is the brainchild of Richard Heart of Hex.com. Love him or hate him, but he has created one of the best performing assets in recents years with Hex. And if you missed out on Hex you get another chance to be early with his next project. Pulsechain has low fees and is deflationary due to its built-in fee burning. It is an EVM compatible, which is nothing new but what has never been done before is that Pulsechain will copy over most of the ERC20 tokens from Ethereum over to their forked blockchain. For every Eth you own you will get 1 free Pulsetoken to play with. Pulsechain will hopefully launched in the coming months. What makes me bullish on this chain is that the Hex community is already very loyal and is growing all time. On their Telegram group is already lots of activity even though the chain isn't on mainnet yet. At the moment (until 25th of February 2022) you can sacrifice to receive PulseX tokens (PulseX is a Uniswap fork and will be the main Swap on Pulsechain) over at Pulsex.com.
Which of these blockchains are you most bullish on? Did I miss any good smaller chains? Let me know in the comments!
