Blinks (Blockchain Links) proposed by the Solana Foundation are links that allow you to access the functionality of the blockchain via any website.
They essentially allow a user to complete an on-chain transaction on any website capable of displaying a URL. By simply clicking on a link (for example on Twitter), you can start an on-chain transaction.
Once a user clicks on a Blink, compatible wallets like Phantom will connect to the actual decentralized application (dApp) allowing execution. These clickable links derive from other functions such as Actions and Solana Pay, developed through the Dialect messaging system (Smart Messaging protocol for sending information and messages).
Solana Pay is a JavaScript library that allows you to perform operations on the blockchain of the same name.
By using a URL scheme for token transfer, Pay ensures interoperability between wallets and apps, allowing businesses to accept payments in SOL or any SPL token. It is as if the website generates a Solana Pay transaction request URL, which can include links to proceed with payment, buttons such as "Buy Now" or QR codes to initiate the transaction.
This request is sent to the user's wallet (for example Phantom) which extracts the necessary parameters from the URL such as recipient, quantity of tokens to send and so on. The wallet, after obtaining the signature, sends the transaction to the cluster for processing.
After that, the merchant's server verifies that the on-chain transaction details (amount, token and recipient address) match the specified request and processes the payment. Actions (URL) allow transactions and messages to be sent to a user by a Web3.0 application, which can be transmitted on-chain once the user has signed up.
Finally, Blinks are client apps that convert Solana Actions into shareable user interfaces containing metadata, wherever you want. The link can be a button to buy, donate, mint an NFT, place a bet, etc which is connected to your Phantom wallet. For now the Foundation has preferred to make the use of Blinks available on dex Jupiter, Drift, Helium, Access, NFT platforms such as Tensor and wallet like Phantom itself.
All of this can be run on X, Youtube, a betting site, etc. There will also be the ability to create interactive on-chain mini games and quiz that take input from users. Furthermore, it will be possible to verify a player's eligibility to participate by checking the NFT present in his wallet. The same goes for interaction in chat conversations on Twitter, possible ticket checks, exchange of tokens/NFT between users directly in the messaging chat.
All of this facilitates mass adoption, particularly of Solana but also of the crypto world in general. Obviously, maximum attention must be paid because such a simple system where just a simple click around is enough will certainly lead to a lot of scams.
