In 2024 the founder of Bitcoin SV (Craig Wright) will have to defend himself in the trial against COPA. This process could be very important for the future copyright of the Bitcoin name and trademark.
COPA (Cryptocurrency Open Patent Alliance) is a conglomerate of companies that are part of the crypto sector (Coinbase, Kraken, Microstrategy, Uniswap, etc) and are in its interest. As you may know, Craig Wright is an Australian computer scientist and founder of Bitcoin SV (fork born in 2019 from Bitcoin Cash). He claims to be Satoshi Nakamoto. COPA in 2021 decided to take Craig Wright to court. On the BSV website we read that:
1) BSV (Satoshi Vision) is the original BTC
2) Crag Wright would be Satoshi Nakamoto therefore the creator of BTC (according to him the only two people who could have confirmed this are H.Finney and D.Kleiman both dead)

In reality, Wright never managed to prove that he was Satoshi. All the documents he presented were falsified, just as he never managed to record a transaction from the famous address with 1 million BTC (genesis block) nor to write with Satoshi's original account on the BitcoinTalk forum. Let's get to know Wright better and some of the causes that have affected him over the years.
THE CASE IN KLEIMAN
In 2018 Kleiman (former developer) sued Wright asking him for a part of the BTC of the genesis block (1 million), if it is true that he is Satoshi Nakamoto. Through a series of fake emails, Wright defended himself by saying that Kleiman's contribution to the development of BTC had been quite light and therefore he was not entitled to anything.
THE LAWSUIT AGAINST BITCOIN.ORG
Wright later (2019) sued the Bitcoin.org website because he said he had infringed the copyright by publishing the Bitcoin whitepaper that belonged to him. Wright won the UK trial because he added "Satoshi Nakamoto AKA Craig Wright" to the whitepaper. No counterparty showed up to defend Bitcoin. The lawsuit is valid only in the UK.
111,000 BITCOIN STOLEN FROM WRIGHT?
In the same year (2019), the same Australian computer scientist sued 16 Bitcoin devs because he had lost 111,000 due to the Mt.Gox hack. Peter McCormack (podcast) who had defamed him and called him a scammer is also taken to court. Wright won the case (because no one showed up in court) even without having brought evidence to prove that he was Satoshi Nakamoto.
THE LOST CASE AGAINST HODLONAUT USER
This Twitter user who also started the Lightning Network torch initiative (where Satoshis were passed from one person to another) had repeatedly called Wright a scammer. The founder of BSV identified the identity of Hodlnaut (Magnus Granath) and took him to court (2019) but this time Wright lost the case in Norway (2022) for presentation of false documents (created using operating systems and software of the time but which did not exist when the original BTC whitepaper was born).
OTHER DISATRIBES ON TWITTER
Wright has argued with many users on Twitter, insulting several of them. This also led to the delisting of BSV from Binance for unethical behavior. To get to know the character better, the Australian computer scientist debated with a user who went against Wright's thoughts by quoting a sentence written in the BTC whitepaper and this discussion emerged (which Wight then deleted).
THE CAUSES AGAINST KRAKEN AND COINBASE
Even CZ (former CEO of Binance) and V.Buterin (founder of Ethereum) have repeatedly labeled Wright as an "impostor". Wright has decided to oppose a number of developers of Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and even Bitcoin SV. Law firm Ontier said Tulip Trading Limited (TTL), controlled by Wright, is demanding that developers allow the company to “regain access to and control of its Bitcoin wallet,” allegedly stolen from Wright in February 2020, worth of almost 5 billion dollars.
The Kraken and Coinbase exchanges were sued for delisting BSV and listing BTC that supposedly belonged to him. This happened in 2019. In particular, this dispute over the name, intellectual property, use of software (mining) will lead to the COPA trial (2021). Calvin Ayre, another big supporter of Bitcoin SV, commented on COPA's legal move, calling it a Christmas present for Wright.
COPA COMPLAINTS CRAIG WRIGHT
In the case started in 2021 and expected to end in Q1 2024, COPA argues to demonstrate that:
1) Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto
2) Even if he were he has no right to the name and copyright on the whitepaper
3) Even if he were Satoshi they ask to still be able to use the BTC name

The FUD that has spread regarding this lawsuit hinges on the fact that if COPA loses, Wright could request the removal of BTC (and BCH) from all exchanges, also trying to "disrupt" free movement as the software would be owned by him . The possibility of this happening is close to 0, however uninformed people (coming from other Crypto communities) are making FUD saying that Bitcoin could disappear because it would no longer be the original but a fork of Bitcoin SV. It should be considered that although BTC is slow in development, it is quite different from the "original" BTC due to continuous upgrades, furthermore the mining software is open source.
What do you think about this? If BTC is forced to change its name, will you continue to hold it? I have no doubt about that.
