My first fifty, part 2: learning my way to $45

My first fifty, part 2: learning my way to $45

When I left you at Part 1, I'd made a tidy $20.

At this point, I opened a CoinBase account. I don't adore having ten bazillion accounts, especially since, in the US, trading sites are regulated financial institutions (lite), and so I have to validate my identity and, technically, leave a trail of abandoned "bank" accounts in my wake.

But this, this was worth it.

See, CoinBase is a big name with some oomph behind it. They don't trade every currency, and take on new ones only if the project itself has serious juice…

...or, is, uh, run by someone's cousin? Drawn from a hat? Actually, I have no idea.

Not the point, though.

CoinBase will airdrop you respectable amounts of some coins simply by learning about them.

It's actually pretty awesome.

You watch a series of very short explainer videos, and after each video, correctly answer a 1 answer quiz. For each video/quiz, you get $1 - $2ish USD worth of that coin...which is immediately (like, right then, no waiting immediately) tradable on CoinBase.

As of today, there are 4 currencies you can learn about, and, for 3 of them, you can refer up to 4 people -- to watch and earn -- for additional "bounty" money.

You make the person who referred you a little bit more money, but there's also something in it for you -- sometimes, the coin levels get depleted, and there's a waiting list for the video series, but having a referral link* helps you jump the line.

So, this is exactly how I pulled my modest 20 up by another 20. I found someone to refer me, opened my account, validated my identity, and then completed the open video series for:

Stellar Lumens*

Orchid*

EOS*

(*contains referral links, which should help you jump the line)

Once I had my active account, I was able to get on a waitlist for tezos, which does not have a referral option (spoiler: took me about a month before I got an open spot).

The videos were actually really interesting. The ones that weren't, were tolerable, and less than 2 minutes long. The quiz questions are really simple, if you can remain semi conscious during the videos, but people have also posted the answers all over the place (google if you gotta).

Badda bing, the coins are immediately in your CoinBase account. You can transfer, withdraw, convert them to another currency, whatever you want.

If you're curious, I wound up converting all to Ethereum, except the Stellar Lumens.

Almost at that first fifty. Five dollars to go! Next post, I'll show you how I pulled up the last few bits, barely breaking a sweat.

Maybe a little sweat. No biggie.

As always, comments, tips, cyphers welcome
