You live by the dollar, you die by the dollar. A very telling tweet describing the fall of Town Star:

It's about time for Gala Games to stop pretending to be this decentralized thing with a non-security token if it's going to continue to behave like the same old centralized web2 company. When the pressure hit and the company had to decide between decentralization and saving its own ass, it chose the latter.
Earlier this quarter, Gala Games just straight up stopped node rewards for Town Star node owners. Node owners bought their nodes under the premise they would be rewarded for maintaining the computing power of and validating transactions on the network. With no compensation for their computing power, node owners (who were also likely the majority of consistent players) stopped playing the game.
Gala Games is the last of the Gen1 P2E projects to learn the lesson — pick a goddamn side. Either you're decentralized or you're a fuckin old school gaming company. Maybe you should keep aside money for the treasury instead of overpaying Snoop Dogg to market his unknown artists on Gala Music and make crap songs with Steve Aoki. And does the company even have a movie to make while it's selling you Gala Film nodes now?
I'm just waiting for Gala to claw back rewards for Founder nodes, which would absolutely spell the death knell of the decentralization narrative. Gala claimed to empower players yet tried to trap people into holding their nodes by denying them the right to sell on the ToS. Is that decentralization? Is that even an experiment in web3 gaming? Or is that just a super slimy way to keep from paying for AWS?
The fuckin company is based in the belly of the beast, San Francisco, trying to call itself decentralized. Should the Biden administration get its way on regulation or the LBRY case set the appropriate legal precedent, that city would be the first to bend the knee. And Gala, as it seems, would be the first to claw back $GALA rewards using regulation fines as an excuse, take the money and run. If they were really concerned with decentralization, they would at least put up a fuckin subsidiary outside the jurisdiction of the most confused regulatory regime on the planet.
Before you start believing these promises of a brave new world, from these big talkers who love to flaunt their web2 resumes, you must look into the meat of a project to see if it is viable. If not, you might still be able to make money if you flip the shit in the first 24 hours of the initial token or NFT drop. OTher than that, leave this shit that locks you into a relationship with a web3 company ALONE. Right now Gala is just taking people's computing power with full rights to completely screw them, and so far giving us no new technological breakthrough.
And don't get me started on this bullshit everybody sells about community. If you want a real community, you lead with culture, not with money. As you can see, all of these Twitter clowns and web3 maxis will ditch a project in a second if the financial rewards stop — all the while telling you that they're holding. Right now, everybody's playing a really cynical game that really shows humanity might not be ready for the true technological advancements crypto offers.
I'm hope I'm wrong, but you shouldn't go bankrupt if I'm right.
