Week Predictions & Final Results
So in terms of the predicted scores, I got 0/4 correct scores this weekend. In terms of match-winner/loser, I managed to predict 1/4 correctly this weekend.
Predicted: Burnley 1-2 Brentford
Result: Burnley 2-1 Brentford
Bruun Larsen, Fofana - Ajer
It took Burnley 10 minutes to open the scoring here, as Cullen crossed the ball into the box and Vitinho went to ground from a Reguilon challenge. VAR had the referee rewatch the incident and Reguilon got sent off before Bruun Larsen scored from the resulting spot kick. Fofana then missed from three yards out and Wissa forced a save from Muric. Fofana got the ball off Flekken but could not score. In the 62nd minute Fofana got his goal when he was played in by Odobert. Mbeumo brought some life into Brentford's play and in the 83rd minute they got one back when Ajer headed in from a Baptiste cross. Toney had a late goal ruled out for a challenge on Muric and Burnley held on for a vital win.
Predicted: Luton 2-1 Nottingham Forest
Result: Luton 1-1 Nottingham Forest
Berry - Wood
Barkley twice tested Sels early on and sent another effort wide as Luton made a bright start. Origi saw a looped effort cleared off the line by Burke following an Elanga cross, but in the 34th minute Wood scoring when he was found by Gibbs-White after Williams' smart reverse ball. Luton began to fade but did have a Mengi goal from a Barkley corner ruled out. After the break Elanga saw a last ditch cleared by Mengi and for the remainder of the half Luton failed to pose a threat on goal. This changed in the 89th minute when Burke headed down a Barkley corner for Berry to score. Luton failed to threaten a late winner and both sides will have to accept a points in their respective battles against the drop.
Predicted: Fulham 1-3 Tottenham
Result: Fulham 3-0 Tottenham
Muniz x2, Lukic
Postecoglou's side hoped to build on their impressive win over top four rivals Aston Villa last weekend, but Fulham made the brighter start in the one. Muniz and Pereira saw efforts blocked inside the first five minutes while Muniz couldn't score from Robinson's cross before Son shot wide on the break. Willian and Johnson wasted chances while Maddison put an effort just wide. In the 42nd minute Muniz scored from a Robinson cross and in the second half they came flying out to double their lead in the 49th minute as Lukic scored from Castagne's driven cross. Castagne could not score after combining with Iwobi but after the hour Muniz did score from a corner. Palhinha then had a goal ruled out for offside and Werner wasted a chance for Spurs but Fulham ran out comfortable winners in the end.
Predicted: West Ham 2-2 Aston Villa
Result: West Ham 1-1 Aston Villa
Antonio - Zaniolo
While both these sides had big games in Europe during the week to progress to the next rounds, it was West Ham who made the brighter start here. Antonio worked hard out of possession and got the opening goal in the 29th minute when he headed in from Coufal's cross. Watkins had a shot off target as Villa failed to trouble the West Ham goal in the first half, and continued to struggle after the break. Antonio had a goal from a corner ruled out for handball and come the end of the game Villa were coming back into the contest. In the 79th minute they got the equalising goal when Zaniolo scored from a Diaby cross. Soucek managed a goal deep into stoppage time but it was ruled out after a long VAR review for handball. The point each ensures both sides maintain their push for European qualification next season.
