Playing Without Playing

After much hesitation and after having tried alternative paths, at last I have surrendered.

Due to the imminent introduction of the new SPS-centric "collection power" system, as well as the fact that as a result of this change I will be forced to play in the Silver League exclusively, unless I wish to receive just a nearly insignificant fraction of the Gold League rewards ( thus completely defeating the utility of playing in a higher league), I finally decided to run a small test, using a bot to play on my behalf.

Yes, I admit that I am not proud of this: I am a full and ardent supporter of the idea that bots in a game should not even exist, let alone be tolerated, but, as we know, the road until Splinterlands reaches this conclusion is still a long one and, consequently, finding myself with the alternative between playing and not playing... I finally chose to play without playing!

Thus, the season that has just ended marks the first one in which all the earnings (with the exception of those related to brawls) were earned by a bot: the rewards gained are far less than those I could have earned by playing myself, but the real difference is in the time I had to spend to get them.

I may have earned very little, but I did not have to play a single moment.

By playing I would have earned more, that is true, but at the cost of how much time spent and committed to a game that, considering the exorbitant cost to access the most interesting and fun Leagues, right now does not in any way allow me to have fun?

If I wanted to, I could use the option of renting and thereby access the Leagues I am interested in, but despite all the improvements made on that front, the reality is that renting is still an activity that requires time and attention, both of which I have less and less available.

As much as I regret it, I have to say that, honestly, this experiment can only be considered a success and a way to continue my growth on Splintelands while awaiting better times - which at this point I don't even know if will ever come.

At least I will see my collection grow a little more and I may hope to, slowly, level up a decent amount of the cards from the Soulbound Rewards set, with the (remote) hope that one day they might be able to help me take that step up that, after almost two years of playing and really too much time spent playing, has never come.

Giocare Non Giocando

Dopo aver tergiversato a lungo e provato a percorrere strade alternative, alla fine sono capitolato.

Complice l'imminente introduzione del nuovo sistema di "collection power" incentrato sugli SPS, nonchè del fatto che a seguito di questa modifica mi troverò costretto a giocare nella sola Lega Argento, a meno di non voler ricevere una frazione praticamente irrisoria delle ricompense della Lega Gold (così vanificando completamente l'utilità di giocare in una lega superiore), ho finalmente deciso di condurre un piccolo test, utilizzando un bot per giocare al posto mio.

Sì, ammetto di non andarne fiero: sono un totale ed accanito sostenitore dell'idea per cui i bot in un gioco non dovrebbero nemmeno esistere, figuriamoci essere tollerati, ma, come sappiamo, la strada perchè Splinterlands arrivi a questa conclusione è ancora lunga e, perciò, trovandomi di fronte all'alternativa tra giocare e non giocare... infine ho scelto di giocare non giocando!

La stagione appena conclusasi rappresenta quindi la prima in cui tutti i guadagni (con l'eccezione di quelli relativi alle brawls) sono stati ottenuti da un bot: le ricompense ottenute sono di gran lunga inferiori a quelle che avrei potuto guadagnare giocando io, ma la vera differenze è nel tempo che ho dovuto impiegare per ottenerle.

Avrò anche guadagnato poco, ma non ho dovuto giocare nemmeno un secondo.

Giocando io avrei ottenuto di più, è vero, ma a fronte di quanto tempo speso e dedicato ad un gioco che, stante i costi esagerati per accedere alle Leghe più interessanti e divertenti, in questo momento non mi consente in alcun modo di divertirmi?

Volendo potrei ricorrere al renting e accedere così alle leghe che mi interessano, ma nonostante tutte le migliorie apportate su tale fronte, la realtà è che il noleggio è ancora un'attività che richiede tempo ed attenzione, elementi che ho sempre meno a disposizione.

Per quanto quindi mi spiaccia, direi che oggettivamente non posso che considerare questo esperimento un successo ed un modo per continuare la mia crescita su Splintelands in attesa di tempi migliori - che a questo punto non so nemmeno se arriveranno mai.

Quantomeno vedrò crescere ancora un po' la mia collezione e potrò sperare, piano piano, di riuscire a livellare un buon numero delle carte del set Rewards Soulbound, con la (remota) speranza che un domani possano aiutarmi a fare quel salto di qualità che, dopo quasi due anni di gioco e davvero troppo tempo speso a giocare, non è mai arrivato.
