I thought I was done with my Splinterlands posts. The only thing left to do is to sell my Splinterlands account somewhere for 5 US bucks of crypto. That is, my buyer will receive the acc's master-key and will basically get a Steem acc, a Hive acc, and a Splinterlands Summoner Spellbook-enabled acc with 50% discount. I believe it's a fair deal. However, recently I run across an interesting article. Personally, I prefer not to debate on particular articles, I would rather comment on various trends. But this time I think my thoughts on that particular post might help someone who just decided to start with the game. I should note that personally I'm rather disappointed about the game after all the things the devs had done to it, but in this very case let's forget about my attitude.

So, as far as I can see, the guy started his Splinterlands journey with a 60 bucks investment (and another $10 for the starter's pack). Based on my own experience in the game, in his starting I see several points which are controversial, at least.

For all his 60 bucks the guy bought a maxed out Bortus lvl.8 and a maxed out Wave Runner lvl.10

However, the Silver league he's currently in, allows only lvl.5 summoners, and a lvl.5 Bortus allow only a lvl.6 Wave Runner. In other words, while being paid in full, his Bortus and Runner now work at half-speed only. Besides, he probably doesn't have any other higher level cards to be utilized with his maxed out Bortus.

Having an only strong deck of a single class means you will lose pretty many battles in other classes. Besides, chasing for daily quests becomes much harder. And on top of that, rather often a player with a proper set of weaker cards can beat a more powerful hand (that is why the "bots" problem exists). Having a single strong deck might be a good strategy once, but that time seems long gone. I'd prefer to have less maxed cards, but spread evenly across all classes.

Bortus is pretty much an ordinary Rare-level card. It has no DCR bonus, like Alphas, Promos, and Golds. Likewise, it's not a two-mana epic Xia, which being lvl.4 allows lvl.7 commons.   Besides, its "buff" is what I call "the opposite buff" -- the buff which doesn't increase your cards' abilities, but diminishes your opponent's. And if your opponent chooses not to go with magic -- the "opposite magic buff" will be largely useless.

From the "investment" point of view both Bortus and Wave Runner don't have much collectible value, they're both pretty common cards, even if maxed out. I believe the only cards worth collecting are golds (especially legendary golds), and maybe maxed out regular legendaries. And the cards worth collecting are not necessarily the most efficient cards on the battlefield.

Those 60 bucks were not the last bucks put in the game, and I hope the guy will manage to build a good deck and get into Champs at the end of the day!
