I have been playing Splinterlands for over 5 years now so I know that changes happen regularly in the gameplay. Whether it’s launch of new collections, or modifications to gameplay, introduction of land and then further upgrades.
With all previous updates I have been able to adapt well. I have some level of exposure to all Splinterlands assets but my strongest collections are Chaos and Untamed.
Challenges of Starting from Scratch in Arcana!
I had built such a diverse and strong Chaos teams specially for Water, Fire and Life elements that I did not have to think what team I need to put as per the mana limits and fight rulesets. It used to come to me as automatic. I never faced any difficulty advancing to Diamond leagues.
1. Chaos Moving out of Modern: With Chaos being pushed out of Modern now I need to do some major updates to my collection which is going to be really difficult as my liquidity level is really low I like to experiment with any new project that seems interesting irrespective of which chain it is on.
2. Limited Rebellion Cards: I never bought much of Rebellion as some how I did not like it much compared to Chaos. As Chaos was allowed in Modern I kept ramping up my Chaos cards rather than buying into Rebellion. Most of my Rebellion cards are the soul bound Reward cards that I accumulated each season.
3. Arcana is Expensive: If I compare to previous collections I feel Arcana is more expensive than earlier sets. It could be due to the hype Arcana has built and the new rules and Blackfoil anticipation in the community. For a regular user with limited budget it seems quite expensive. Like all previous collection I expect the cards to correct a bit in value over the coming weeks s the hype mellows down. I will then look for bargains on Legendary cards to slowly build my collection.
Opening my First Arcana Packs
From my experience with Untamed, Chaos and then Rebellion I have always felt that buying packs in the long run works out more expensive. It is much wiser to play around with the new set a bit. Identify which cards you like and then look for bargains in the market.
Still we all know the thrill there is to opening packs once in a while so I decided to at least get 2 packs from the market. I crossed my fingers and opened the packs.
1. Two Rares in the First Pack- I will not call it some burst of luck but I can’t complain as I know that the normal expectation from a pack is a single Rare so I was happy that at least I got one extra.
2. One Regular Rare and One Goldfoil Rare in Second Pack- Second pack turned out to be really lucky as it had a gold foil Rare which was worth what I had invested in buying the 2 packs. This tempted me to impulse buy a dozen more packs but I controlled myself as I know very well that there is no guarantee of getting a gold foil again.
How Will I build my Arcana Portfolio!
I think this time it will be a very slow process to build my Arcana portfolio as I am running low on liquidity but slowly & steadily I will get there as I always do.
I just need to plan my journey with the 2 crucial steps.
- Buy Summoners, Level them Up- I have been with the game long enough to know that your team is worthless without having good summoners. The summoners in Arcana are mostly Rare and seem a bit expensive now. I will wait a while to see if I find some bargains then slowly level up my summoners at least to level 4.
- Buy Good Legendaries- I feel strong legendary cards are the backbone of your portfolio but unfortunately they are also the most expensive. Once I have the summoners ready I will start picking up the Legendaries.
I will keep documenting my journey and see whether it takes me weeks or months to get there.
