Paperboy on the Commodore 64

Paperboy on the Commodore 64

The classic game of Paperboy on the Commodore 64. The game controls aren’t the best, with the NES version being better. This is one of those games that was really only ported to the Commodore 64 because it was such a popular game and sold so well that the Commodore market wanted some of the sales too.

The Commodore 64 was certainly capable of good controls and good gameplay but often, many games on the platform seemed to focus on other aspects instead. There are some great games on the platform, but I suppose with this game they were just trying to get it to market to start getting some of the sales.

That way, if someone played Paperboy at the arcades or at a friend’s house on their NES and they had a Commodore 64, they could go out and buy the game for their platform too.

In those days development teams were much smaller than they are now, and the development tools were more basic. Even bigger, more well-known gaming companies would often have development teams that weren’t much bigger than the average indie developer today, with most development teams being no more than five people. Still though, even though this game may not be a shining example of what was capable on the Commodore 64, there were many great games made for the platform.
