Blockchain game development company Immutable has announced the launch of a new Polygon-based ZkEVM network.
The Immutable X network uses Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP) technology to provide a scalable environment that leverages the security of Ethereum Layer 1 while operating from the project's existing Layer 2 chain absed on StarkEx.
Currently only in early access, the new network will be guaranteed by validators who stake Polygon's Matic tokens to obtain greater fluidity and reduced fees for transactions.
In the next few weeks the mainnet will be open to the public, but the exact date is not yet known.
The investment made by the two companies to present this network is justified by the predictions about the future of the blockchain-focused gaming industry, which is constantly growing year after year. According to Fortune Business Insights, the industry could soon be worth over $614 billion.
Already several games that had participations on the old Immutable ecosystem are working to be launched immediately on the new layer-2 ZkEVM, including Guild of Guardians, Shardbound, Metalcore, Treeverse, Cool Cats, BADMAN Robots, Space Nation, Eyeball Games and Imaginary Ones.
The first two games just mentioned will be published as early as the first half of 2024, according to the company Decrypt.
The general growth of the blockchain games sector in recent years seems likely to continue in 2024. The user base is constantly increasing, as are the quality titles, of which Gods Unchained, Sandbox, Axie Infinity and many others continue to be updated and to have an expanding fan base.
Immutable X together with Polygon definitely have the potential to make this industry even bigger and more mainstream.
