Watch Out For HYIP - It Isn't Just A Funny Sounding Acronym

What is HYIP?

Did someone spell hype wrong? Hold your ideas, partner? NO! That's not it! hehe, as if.

So, HYIP stands for "High Yield Investment Program". You're welcome.

Now that I have saved you 11 seconds of opening a browser tab and inserting 4 letters and pressing enter... or saying "ok, google...", let's look at the reason you should be careful.

A lot of people are seeking that magical formula to make a million dollars from crypto. Since mining is tough, we don't have a time machine to go back to the first days of Bitcoin, and trading is, well, it's just really tough, a lot of people are wondering where the magical guaranteed moons are in crypto. The answer: that annoying thing that smart people have always said about this kinda stuff. "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is".

Something else about human nature; in addition to finding smart adages annoying when you want to do the opposite, we can tend to hear only the part we wish to hear. A lot of people, when faced with "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" actually heard "probably" which means there's also a chance "they just don't know like I know, you know?"

So, there are these programs were you invest into a pool, and others trade on your behalf. Some of these center around an individual who is a known trading personality, and perhaps they do well, perhaps they don't. I'm not going to list references here. This is a very general "watch out". Other sites that are considered HYIP provide a confidence-based program where you don't know the people involved, and the site is focused around guarantees, testimonials etc.

What I can tell you is that the reddit, telegram, online crypto forums are full of people, usually extremely new to crypto, who have been taken by one of these opportunities.

Get rich quick is something that could, couulllllddddd potentially happen in crypto, and I can guarantee you that at least one person is out there to tell you how they predicted everything, and others who have scored big time even the past week, month, year. Keep in mind there are probably ten thousands others who just got nailed to the floor with low positions they were certain would moon. Most people do not share when they get hit with a bad call.

Scams and simply bad investment ideas don't often get a lot of bad beef that they deserve, often because much of their earnings go towards getting bad reviews lowered in search results, and often they are backed by a lot of fake sites that appear to the search engines as real positive reviews.

So, I am absolutely certain there are genuine opportunities, but I am not going to recommend any. If you reply with comments about a program someone should sign up for, I will probably delete it.

People, if you are new to crypto, learn everything you can about the coins and the exchanges, DEX, and everything that is available. There are very, very, very few sites like this that allow you to earn in crypto relatively easily. Hopefully the future brings more, and certainly better options as time progresses. But, if you are new to crypto, the last thing you want to do is give your money to a stranger that promises to grow it.
