It is sad to see that even after so many years and decades of decolonization, African leaders are still slaves to the West. Not only the leaders, but also the so-called rich, who managed to rise through dubious connections, influence peddling, and drug trafficking. After all, many countries on the continent are corridors for this plague that destroys societies.
Those who are wealthy do not put their children in an African school, nor do they go to a local hospital, or even buy food produced in their own country — they import everything. Leaders and the well-off do not work for the people; they work for themselves and their families. It is normal that when they fall ill, they fly to Dubai, Paris, or even the United States just to book consultations, exams, and surgeries. Not even hospital directors trust the staff they hire, as they too seek treatment at private hospitals abroad.
This raises a very serious question. If they have local infrastructure and donated funds to invest in its proper functioning, why do they still spend rivers of money abroad without any real need? Most illnesses they might have are treatable in many African countries, and there are good specialists — many of whom actually come from the same countries they travel to for treatment.
But this is only the tip of the iceberg.
For years, African “millionaires” have been feeding the countries that supply them with the state budget — money that becomes an endless debt paid with mineral and wildlife resources that each country accepting such support must commit to giving up. Every major investment made in Africa has the West’s fingerprints on it, and not even China’s penetration in many countries has shaken that reality. Yes, China is gaining ground, but the West still stands firm, commanding Africa.
Power, elections, and everything related to governance in many African nations has external influence. Countries suffer massive interference, and whoever governs must obey everything the West and its allies demand. But why does this happen? Simple: those who hold power control everything and hand over whatever they want at a bargain. There is no freedom of decision or governance because everything must be approved by the “masters.”
I remember very well the case of the hidden debts in my own country, where more than $2 billion vanished and, to this day, no one knows where the money went. Influential state officials were judged and imprisoned, but the money was never recovered — and many of them are now on conditional release. Billions disappeared, and no one knows where they ended up. But all of this had the involvement of the state and Western allies, who orchestrated everything so the money would disappear and the country would remain “eternally” indebted to them.
Because of this and so many other things, I do not trust the state with my money. They do not protect the ordinary citizen. They protect what benefits them — their friendship with the West and all the tricks that come with it. Imagine that today, to move a mere 200,000 Meticais (less than $3,000), you must prove where the money comes from, what you do, and how you intend to use it. And worse, any mistake in the declaration means the money is retained, frozen, and the owner is prosecuted.
Meanwhile, the elite who move thousands of dollars have a free pass to engage in money laundering using shell companies and “front men” to circulate dirty money. They do this openly because they are the elite and enjoy immunity. Yet a legitimate business owner can only use a credit card and spend at most 1 million Meticais — roughly $15,000 — per year abroad.
And these are the people I am supposed to trust with my money? Of course not.
I share this entire outburst to remind my fellow citizens that we lost this battle long ago. Now it is up to us to use cryptocurrencies to escape this suffocation. Using decentralized money is not a luxury; it is a necessity. I personally use Bitcoin Cash to maintain my financial freedom, to use my money as I should, where I should, and with whoever I choose — all of this paying only fractions of a dollar or even a metical.
While corrupt political leaders and African millionaires do whatever they please, it is time for us to take a step and protect our sovereignty and privacy by using money that cannot be frozen — becoming our own bank, shielded from inflation, and able to use our funds with full autonomy. As the old saying goes: no one teaches us how to take care of money; they simply send us to school to become good employees, earn a salary, and pay taxes.
