The Day I Stopped Talking About Crypto and Started Using Money: Why I Chose Bitcoin Cash

By alberdioni8406 | The BCH Observer | 3 Jan 2026

There's a big difference between talking about cryptocurrency and using money. I didn't learn that in forums or conferences, but by trying to pay, receive, and organize my life on a daily basis.

When fees are heavy on users’ pockets and the wait to get your transaction confirmed is stressful, that is embarrassing. The technology stops being interesting very fast. Before I got into BCH, I used some other networks in the past, but many of them disappointed and failed where it is important: use as money.

Since I started using BCH six years ago, it has never disappointed — and this completely changed my way of seeing money.
I never woke up to look at Bitcoin Cash charts or analyze graphics to decide how and where to use it. I just did, as it works every time I need it.

Bitcoin Cash works in my town, in many other African cities, in the world, and in any other place where there's internet, no matter how much you are transferring or receiving. Here, the reality is simple: money circulates in small, medium, or big values, many times a day, paying extremely low fees.

It's here where I understood that Bitcoin Cash is crucial to people and that this is more powerful than reading even whitepapers to start using the currency.

CHAPA BCH wasn't Born From "just" an Idea. It was Born to Solve a Problem.

Many people believe that CHAPA BCH Moçambique was born from just a beautiful idea on paper. But that isn't the complete truth. It all started with a basic practical question:
How about local transport starting to accept Bitcoin Cash without complicating things?

Drivers need to be paid fast. Passengers need to pay without those complicated headaches. With BCH, there's no space for failures, delays, and absurd fees.

Using Bitcoin Cash makes more sense:

  • Direct payments

  • Almost zero fees

  • Fast confirmations and without intermediaries

I didn't need to explain to a passenger or a driver about blockchain. I just needed to show them how to scan a QR code and get the job done.

When Using Teaches More Than Any Whitepaper

Like many in the space, I have given a close read to a lot of whitepapers and followed debates and crypto project launches.
But all of that doesn't compare with the moment when a driver gets his customer's payment and smiles because it was fast and instantly confirmed in his wallet. Someone uses Bitcoin Cash for the first time and sees that they didn't lose any money on fees. Here, a small payment works as intended.

Other crypto projects are interesting to discuss and create hype, but many aren't good to use.

Meetups: When Bitcoin Cash Stops Being Theory

Bitcoin Cash meetups are another turnaround for me. They aren't luxury events. They are small gatherings with real people and direct questions:

“It works?”

“How much does it cost?”

“Can I use it today?”

Taking BCH to meetups isn't about showing slides — it's about showing transactions happening live. Paying right there and receiving instantly.
In this environment, many narratives go down. Either it works or it doesn't. And Bitcoin Cash works just fine.

Simplicity as a Sign of Respect

In all this time that I have been in the Bitcoin Cash ecosystem, I have understood something very important: when a system demands that people need to learn technical stuff to be able to make payments, it doesn't respect who is on the other side.

When, for example, I take BCH to my local meetups or teach someone to pay using it, I don't need to explain what layer 2 solutions are, what bridges are, or what risks are associated with using the currency. I just need to explain how to open a wallet and scan a QR code.

For informal markets, local transport, and small businesses, they don't need technical details. They just need to pay, receive, and survive one more day.

Money Shouldn't Choose Who to Work For

Several cryptocurrency projects brag about financial inclusion, but in practice only work well for those who already have a bank account, time, and technical knowledge.

In all this time, Bitcoin Cash never asked me:

  • Where I am from

  • If I have a bank account

  • If my money is too small...

It just works. And that is RARE.

Real Decentralization, Not a Sold One

Another thing that became clear with time: well-organized crypto projects always have owners. In Bitcoin Cash, decisions are debated slowly, sometimes with "small" conflicts, but they are never imposed.

That isn't comfortable, but it's honest.
For money that is neutral and global, this is more important than looking professional for investors.

Scale for the Streets, Not for Presentations

In Bitcoin Cash, payments are small and constant. A system that only works well for big values already failed even before it starts.
BCH chose to scale at the base layer. This means:

  • Paying for transport makes sense

  • Accepting small payments makes sense

  • Using it every day doesn't turn it into a risk

Scaling for real people changes everything.

Why I Continue to Use Bitcoin Cash

I continue in the ecosystem not because it promises to enrich people quickly, but because BCH allows me to build real things.
CHAPA BCH, the meetups, the local use — all of that wouldn't be viable on an expensive, slow, and complicated network. BCH didn't give me financial stability, but autonomy.

The autonomy to pay, to receive, to experiment, and to build on the ground.

Conclusion: When Money Works, the Chat Changes

I didn't join the community for ideology, nor for marketing or promises. I stayed because everything worked when I needed it.
And if something works in the streets, in transport, in markets, and in our local meetups, it is worth more than any whitepaper.

This is how I stopped talking about crypto and started using money.
