In 2018, I witnessed something that changed my view of money forever. That year, in my country, the whole banking system went down — and people, even with money in their accounts, couldn’t withdraw it from ATMs.
The company providing the ATM software unilaterally locked the system due to a conflict with the institution running Mozambique’s banking infrastructure. They accused the institution of owing them money and used that justification to cause a complete blackout across the country.
The whole country became a slave to that company. No one could withdraw cash from ATMs, and to get money out, people had to endure long queues at banks.

Imagine that situation! You have money, but you can’t use it because two institutions are fighting.
