General News:
- Brave's Mobile PM, Anthony will give updates on the Brave Playlist feature on Android during next week's Community Call.
- The 2023 State of BAT blogpost is still being worked on and will be released later this month. It will provide a recap of 2022 and plans for 2023.
- A new VP of Growth will be starting at Brave on 1/17/2023. He has a startup and browser background and will be a great asset for Brave's MAU & DAU growth goals.
BAT Community:
- The BAT Ambassadors is beginning to do IRL public meetups again. During them they will promote Brave, Brave products, and the BAT Ecosystem.
- GetBased passes will be sent out next week for anyone who filled out the form for them in the BAT Brigade Discord server.

Brave Rewards:
- Details on changes to Brave Rewards and tipping system in the 1.48 update (February 2023): If you don't or can't verify your Rewards through one of the wallet provider partners (Uphold, Gemini & BitFlyer) and KYC, then the full amount of BAT you earn from now on will be auto-contributed to verified websites you visit, just like on iOS. You probably won't be able to designate and tip a specific Brave Creator.
- See the Important Changes to Brave Rewards post released later that week for more information. It has a summary at its end that highlights the important parts.
Brave Wallet :
- Code for auto-discovery of Solana assets is being reviewed at the moment. This feature is hoped to arrive soon in Nightly.
Twitter Space with Edge W2E Summary:
Project description - Edge is a Web3 streaming platform that is revolutionizing video streaming with user incentives for viewing and sharing.
Goal - For Edge to live inside existing video platforms and for $EAT to be a token that rewards users who engage with and share content.
About Edge:
- Decentralized networking and streaming; first of its kind Web3 video network.
- Edge provides tech that integrates with existing video/streaming platforms (web or TV).
- Has its own token, the Edge Activity Token ($EAT). It is loosely inspired by Brave's Basic Attention Token ($BAT).
- Edge measures real engagement from viewers: Is their volume on? Is their Edge player running in the foreground or background? etc., and rewards them in $EAT for their engagement with the content. Engagement can include liking, sharing on social media, or tagging faces via their AI face-detection software (not live yet).
- When viewing an Edge stream on your computer, phone, or TV, there is a QR code you can scan to start interacting with the content and earning $EAT.
- Users can tag TV characters and personalities during streams with their upcoming AI face-detection software. If the person/character/personality hasn't been tagged prior, then they are entered into Edge's database, and an NFT is generated. The NFT will allow the tagging viewer to earn $EAT every time the person appears on screen. This is a great way to encourage viewer participation with streams and to have viewers help feed Edge's AI and grow its database.
Live Q&A:
- Can you discuss some ways to prevent people of taking advantage of the system? Several ways; cannot discuss them all for security reasons. For example, The system can detect whether one or multiple devices are using the same wallet. It can tell whether a viewer's volume is on (Are they actually listening? Watching on mute? Are they not really engaged?), and whether the player is running in the foreground or the background.
- Have you noticed W2E being more effective with specific audiences? For example, gamblers, who chase rewards/payoffs? So far, it has proven effective with audiences across niches. We will continue to learn/observe how to engage different audience cohorts as time progresses.
- What can viewers do with $EAT tokens? Right now: Cash them in (withdraw) or stake them.
- Is the Edge rewards system fully decentralized? It is not fully decentralized yet, but that is the goal.
- What about Edge's partnership with Brave? Edge is part of Brave's Wallet Partner Program. Currently exploring possibilities for W2E in Brave with $BAT integration.
