Sometimes, it seems, that we consider childhood to be a time of sweet innocence and that is what it should be and how it should be for each and every child. The fact of the matter is though that this is often not the truth - war, fleeing home, crisis, a death in the family or a multitude of other things, can often leave our children damaged and very often, simply because that damage does not manifest in bruises, marks and scars it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
You may ask yourselves why I am talking about this today?
Well, it really is simple. Wounds; wounds running deep that I thought were long since forgotten, have suddenly over the last few months been bubbling to the surface and these "demons" as I label them are ofttimes relentless and even when quelled for a short time they are still present in the form of sibilant whispers that tear at your soul and esteem and seek your destruction.
As I am witnessing this with an upsurge of emotion and the reopening of old wounds, I want to reach out and encourage others to find healing. Maybe a very important lesson is that for forgiveness is for the forgiver and and the forgiven. That person who wronged you or harmed you, quite frankly almost certainly doesn't give a s**t about your feelings or sensitivities, nor the damage they did to you.
As for me I am on the verge of writing a letter for my family. My wonderful supportive (and if you have any doubts) totally innocent family who I have kept in the dark for far too long. I remember an episode of NCIS when Bishop said:
"A person is only as dark as their secrets".
Well, maybe the way forward is to bring things into the light.
As always stay safe and well my friends.
