1BTC Project - That Bitcoin Miner Ad.

If you have been reading my posts you would have noticed my muted praise of the Bitcoin Miner by Fumb Games.

In my July Recap I poked some fun at an advertisement that I saw for the game. During recent mobile gaming sessions I have been seeing an extended version of the ad. This time I watched the whole thing. I was impressed by how honest it was on some points and way off it was on others.

Here is my tweet of the recording.

I want to break down each claim and show you what is actually happening with this silly little application.

Claim 1: It is sharing ad revenue with the user (the recording missed this one).

It is likely that this is true, but there really is not enough ads to justify the amount of bitcoin I get out of this app. What is more likely happening is this is being used as a loss leader for the payments partner mentioned in the small print. That partner is ZeeBeeDee.

ZBD is another ad, gaming and survey platform. You can only payout from Bitcoin Miner to your ZBD account so they get a lot downloads because of that. I would guess they are hoping users poke around and try out other, more profitable features of ZBD once they have it on their phone.

Another possibility is they are stealing your data.

Claim 2: You don't have to reach a certain threshold or pay money before cashing out.

This claim is 100% true. This game does not have a minimum amount to withdraw. It also does not require a premium account or any payment to make the withdrawal. You can cash out up to 500 sats per day from Bitcoin Miner to your ZDB account, and up to 1000 sats at once from your ZDB to a lightning network wallet.

Claim 3: The game plays itself in the background.

This is true but misleading. Yes the game will idle and continue to advance, but you can only receive Bitcoin through active means. The in game Satoshi tokens need to be tapped to be collected. Everything else is just meaningless points. So the game continues but you are not earning while it idles in the background.

Claim 4: You will never be a millionaire from this app.

I would call this true and its appreciated that they set expectations low. The earning from this game is low but real.

Claim 5: "I am earning $10 per month".

This is false, but not outlandishly false. If you were to crush every special event you may be able to squeeze out a $10 month at these levels, but that is a a stretch. $5 per month is a commitment. I have been using this game for 4 months and I am averaging $3.16 per month. I am not sure I would be able to triple my output without huge real life sacrifices to make an extra $7 per month. And that's the bottom line cus Stone Cold Said So.

Claim 6: They show a withdrawal of $2.63.

This one is strange. It feels like a lie for the sake of lying. The withdrawals come out in Bitcoin not dollars. The confusing part is the sats actually get paid out so why change the currency?

Claim 7: "It's actually quite fun to do it."

The is false. There is very little, if any fun to be had with this game.

Claim 8: "It's got like 10,000 five star reviews on the App Store."

False. It has 1.5K reviews on the app store. See the screen grab below.

Claim 9: You can download it put it on your home screen and play a few minutes every day to earn $10 per month.

False. They are really hung up on the $10 per month. I believe that monthly amount is not feasible especially if you are playing only minutes per day.

Claim 10: The demo gameplay.

False. The gameplay and the sprites used for the most part do no represent what actually happens in the game. This ad does flash shots of the actually game play but they insert many instances of pure fabrication.

This advertisement made 10 claims in a minute. 40% of those claims were true. This is so wild to be as this game actually works and as far as I can tell is not a scam. I still only play it on my burner phone so that I don't have my data stolen, but I have been using it a while and everything except their marketing seems above board.
