tl;dr: the more we know about ourselves collectively, the more we can accomplish.
I’ve been continuing to dive into quantum theory with the passion of a beginner and the accompanying beginner’s mind, primarily starting with Quantum Revelation: A Radical Synthesis of Science and Spirituality
One of the key concepts, based on my exceptionally limited understanding of quantum entanglement, is that our mere observation of the world changes the world. This act of observation then subsequently changes us as individuals as well as affecting others in unimaginable ways. It’s the “butterfly effect” but it’s not chaos theory so much as the interconnected fabric of the universe, rippling through time and space (which are compressed into the idea of “now”) at light speed.
Basically, whenever we observe something about the world, we are transformed, both consciously and unconsciously.
According to Paul Levy, the author,
“Every advance, every conceptual achievement of humanity has always been connected to an expansion of self-awareness.”
That’s a powerful notion, but if we’re each having our own individual moments of transformation, how does that give us the ability to achieve the things (i.e. transform our perception of reality) that require more than one person?
Levy answer:
“The universe is a collectively shared dream that is too seemingly dense and solidified for any one person’s change in perspective to transform, but when a critical mass of people get into alignment and consciously put together what I call our ‘sacred power of dreaming,’ (our innate power to dream the universe into materialization), we can, literally, change the (waking) dream we are having.”
In the world of Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), of which Gtmhub is the leading software provider, “alignment” is the magic word. It is the solution to the challenge of keeping a globally decentralized group of hyperconnected and information-empowered knowledge workers all marching in the same direction when it comes to executing strategy.
In this way, a large group of people can have a change in perspective (i.e. collective self-awareness) about what is important and consciously put together a ‘sacred power of dreaming.’
Crypto networks do the exact thing, albeit in a slightly different way. They create collective self-awareness through a blockchain and smart contracts because everyone can agree on what the definition of “truth” is at that moment.
If it’s “on chain,” it’s true.
This brings to mind a a recent episode that I heard of the Bankless podcast with guest, Eric Wall, who calls himself a “digital biologist.”
Wall hypothesizes that cryptonetworks are organisms. By virtue of their decentralization (and thus resilience) and ability to replicate (just set up a node on the network with the open source software), cryptonetworks are becoming “living” (e.g. Bitcoin has a ‘heartbeat’ every 10 minutes) and ‘breathing” (e.g. the hum of the servers that power it) entities.
These entities achieve global self-awareness and evolve (or die) accordingly.
For example, here’s a self-aware Bitcoin network signaling support for the Taproot upgrade, which will hopefully improve speed and scalability.
As I wrote the other day, “It’s Networks All the Way Down.“
Now I’ll add to that by saying, “it’s self-aware networks all the way down,” because those lacking self-awareness won’t make it.
