Gods Unchained: A review

With most blockchain games, the theme remains the same: earn NFTs by playing, then sell or trade them for profit. This simple mechanic is often enough to hook new players, but in order to keep a consistent and active player base, the devs need to make the actual game itself fun.

Enter Gods Unchained, a TCG (trading card game) with Chris Clay at the head of its dev team. Chris Clay, for those who didn't know, was the former director of the first TCG ever made: Magic the Gathering. The game does visibly reuse some mechanics from Magic but puts a new twist on them to make them feel fresh and exciting to a Magic player like me. The game runs on a layer on top of the Ethereum blockchain to avoid any sort of gas fees from trading and selling cards.

There are, however, some noticeable drawbacks: Compared to Magic, there is no easily visible indicator of a card's rarity, making it hard to determine how valuable a card might be. In addition, the UI often feels cluttered and hard to navigate, especially when trying to sell cards since you are required to switch back and forth between a website and the app.

In conclusion, I highly recommend Gods Unchained to fans of the TCG genre as a whole.

Final rating: 8/10
