Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that all non-essential retail stores in England will be allowed to re-open starting from June 15th, 2020, though retailers must adhere to new guidelines set to protect both shoppers and workers from the Covid-19 Coronavirus. Store re-opening must frequently clean regularly touched items such as self-checkouts and shopping cards, place protective coverings on large items often touched by the public such as sofas and chairs, place posters demonstrating awareness and compliance to the rules, and storing all returned items for at least 72 hours before putting them back on the shop floor. Meanwhile, outdoor markets alongside car showrooms will be allowed to reopen starting on June 1st, 2020.

As of now, the the Department of Health and Social Care along with the Johns Hopkins University have confirmed over 260,000 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus alongside 36,914 Covid-19-related deaths in the United Kingdom. England has reported about 132,000 confirmed cases alongside 27,432 Covid-19-related deaths.
