At least 14 people are confirmed dead after tropical storm Amanda brought strong winds, torrential downpours, floods, and landslides to El Salvador. According to local media, thousands of homes were severely damaged or destroyed, infrastructure suffers damage, and many flights have been cancelled or rescheduled. President Nayib Bukele has declared a 15-day state of emergency to deal with the aftermath of the storm, and estimated that the damages are worth the equivalent of about 200 million United States dollars.

As of now, thousands of people are without power, natural gas, or clean water, and over 4,000 people in the capital city of San Salvador have moved into temporary shelters. San Salvador mayor Ernesto Muyshondt stated that as of now, 7 people are confirmed to have been killed in his city. Rescue and repair efforts are reportedly hindered by the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.

Tropical storm Amanda is the first major storm in the 2020 Pacific hurricane season.
