What do I mean by this title? On Blockchains such as Ethereum, BSC, Tron, etc. besides the main cryptos like Ethereum, BNB, Tron there might be other tokens that will not always show inside your wallet app for various reasons. There could be a lack of native support for a particular token or just the token is a scam and the wallet is "trying to protect you in a way". However, it's best if you stay informed.
One of the most popular wallets for ETH/BSC and some other blockchains is Metamask. And it's really great, however, sometimes you need to add manually some obscure tokens to it so you can see them. Back when I started with CAKE for example I had to add it manually so it shows in the wallet. So let me show you how you can check what's inside your ETH/BSC wallet.
First, you need to enter your password and then you will be presented with a window like that:
Next step is to click on the 3 dots in the top right corner:
And hit "View Account in Explorer". This will open your page in the BSC explorer where you can see all the information about it on the Blockchain.
The page looks like this:
What we are interested in is this drop-down menu, where it's saying "token". Once you press it you will see all the Tokens that are attached to your address.
For example, you can take my wallet. You can see that I have a few million tokens that normally are not showing in my Metamask with different names.
That's the moment when you have to open google and try to find if those are legit. Often there are other people sharing about this on Reddit, Youtube, or any other board. Currently, in my wallet, the only thing that has ANY value is that Hydro token. Everything else is a scam. However there is a small chance something valuable might show up, that is why it's a good idea for you to check from time to time.
Let's take this Minereum BSC (MNEB) for example. If you go to Coinmarketcap and search it you will find this:
And it's being traded on 3 exchanges:
However, when you search the web you will find only reports of people not being able to trade it for anything.
Let's go back to Metamask. If I switch to the Ethereum mainnet:
In the same way, I can open the Ethereum Blockchain Explorer:
When you press the drop-down menu at "Token" you will see all the ERC20 tokens you have associated with your account.
Normally, due to the high gas fees, it will be more difficult to see SCAMs here, however, in my case I have those 888888 KICK tokens that are not really legit. If you search KICK you will find information that they cannot be transferred. There is some exchange that has transferred those to random wallets like 2 years ago and in order to unlock them you have to pay some insane fees and it's totally not worth it. Not to mention that I'm not even sure if it's possible.
What's important to remember, is that if you start researching any of those scam tokens you should be careful what links do you open. I would consider using a completely different browser to do the research.
Another wallet where you can find a lot of scam tokens is TronLink. It's a browser extension just like Metamask. It has built-in functionality to track all tokens that are not imported to your list.
The small purple + button will open a list of tokens associated with your address. And there are usually tons of those:
95% of the time those will be fake. If you press the purple + against any of those it will be added to the list of tokens you see in your wallet. So far I haven't found anything useful besides some APENFT (NFT) worth like $2.
That's my message for today. Let me know if you find any treasures in your wallets :)
