A Vulgar Self Improvement Journey: Genesis

And Here...We...Go

I’ll spare everyone the victim story. If I spent the first paragraph whining about my tragic life events, I’d generate a massive collective eye roll from readers. And I’d just be another little bitch crying online.

Fuck whatever led me to this point. And fuck whatever has led you to the point of crowd sourcing motivation for self improvement from the Internet. As David Goggins would put it, nobody cares. Work harder.

So, damnit. Let’s get into the meat of things. Life sucks, for whatever reason, how are we gonna fix it?

First, identify what’s wrong.

Why are you generally dissatisfied? Your appearance? Okay, how can you meaningfully change that?

For me, I’ve always struggled with weight. I’m a borderline autistic fuck, so eating has just generally not been easy. Who cares? If I don’t like what I see in the mirror, I have to make a commitment to do SOMETHING about it. Or else I’m resolving to be the same person I was yesterday. Personally, I’m striving to gain a significant amount of weight. I know in order to consistently gain and keep weight on, I need to consume around 2500 calories a day. And in order for those pounds not to just simply become fat, I need to be working out/lifting weights consistently every week.

You, the one reading, you might also want to gain weight. Or maybe you want to lose a little bit. Or maybe you want a toned ass. Or abs. Whatever it is. Identify what you’d like to change (something that CAN be changed, of course) and make it your mission to do so. Treat it like warfare, build your tactics. Identify your own weaknesses and address them ahead of time. Where might you slip up on your way to your goal? Take preventative measures. Hold yourself accountable.

Physical improvements are nothing to scoff at, but ultimately focusing on your appearance only gets you so far. Most everyone has far more struggle and areas for improvement mentally rather than physically.

Take the same approach. What parts of your everyday behavior bother you? What habits do you have that you desperately wish to break? What’s a major personality trait you wish to shed?

Find it, break it down, and attack it. If you struggle with remaining calm, losing your temper, general anxiety; perhaps dedicate your focus on developing a regular mediation practice.

If you can’t seem to stop from constant negative self talk, look into positive affirmations and the power of your own words. (Sometimes I find that I just have to tell that voice in my head to shut the fuck up. It’s that simple.)

For myself, I constantly lose control of my emotions and let people bring anger out of me easily. I had to come to the realization that there’s far less power in anger than there is in control. I simply wasn’t myself when I was being ruled by emotions and manipulated at others’ whim. To address this, I began microdosing mushroom tea, along with adopting a daily practice of Wim Hof’s breathing method. Of course with a mental struggle as wide ranging as the one I’ve identified for myself, the correction will take time. But I’ve noticed improvement already, and have learned you have to take shit one day at a time.

Whatever you’ve decided is your needed change mentally, deeply analyze it, and then become hellbent on achieving it. Everyone’s personal methodology will be different, but the concept of setting up and attacking your goals is most certainly universal.

This first article on my journey will basically serve as a road map for the rest. I’ll provide updates and my analysis each week, on both my path to physical improvement and mental improvement. If anyone happens to want to follow the same strategy, feel free to post your own updates as well.

I’m not some guru. I don’t have everything figured out. But if you’re not trying what the fuck are you doing? Shoutout to that man Goggins. Stay hard motherfuckers.
