News across the world are showing that Governments has portion of BTC's-particularly for me just proving that Governments has more assets seized that they claim!
The Nordic Country, Finland customs agency dubbed, Tulli, has in their possession 1,666 BTC's worth currently over $15 million. The Bitcoins comes from a major drug bust conducted years back reported by the national public Finland's broadcasting service Yle, that also note that the assets hasn't been cashed out yet.
The Finland customs are concerned to auction off the BTC's as they affraid to let them go back to criminals and the last plan in 2018 to sell them off was postponed due to this reason! They believe that the bitcoins could end up being used for money laundering so cancelled the event.
The concerns are not that really has to conduct an auction of course they must plan it to happen, and BTC address can easily be tracked also the bidders must follow strictly rules to be part of the auction, so I am not sure why they used that excuse to cancel the late auction.
Last week we follow up the auction of 4,040+ by the US Marshal service that two luck bidders took home those Bitcoins! If they have doubts they could consider asking for the US agency how to do that...as it sounds fishy to me! Criminals are everywhere but Authorities must create an environment to protect the assets to end up in the right hands.
And if we can go to analysis we clear see that 0.5% (~$829) of the transactions happened on the dark web, as suggested last November by Blockchain analytics company Elliptic, meaning only a small portion is conducted in the black market.
If they are not planning to sell off the assets they can hold them until decide to do better with them, as for me they have no intention to sell them!
Let's see what coming news will present us with!
