Finishing 4th of 12 at 11/2, London led throughout at Wolverhampton 7f yesterday. Possibly went a bit hard over seven furlongs. The King's Steed ran a decent race. Michael Appleby and Frederick Larson scored with 9/2JF Mostallim.
Today's Race
The 3.50 at Kempton Park is a 'Jumpers Bumper' NH Flat race run over 2m2f. A pretty decent selection of horses from the jumping sphere are entered. Many are likely getting a run prior to running for bigger prizes at the Cheltenham Festival.
Today's Contenders
Honest Vic has the best hurdle form on offer. His Cheltenham win over 3 miles was impressive and it was a very decent Grade 2 race at Newbury he got competitive in. That form suggests he's the best horse in the race. He's been best backed probably on account of that and yet he won't necessarily be in tip-top condition for this.
Nicky Henderson and Paul Nicholls both have very good strike rates in NH Flat races. Ecco, Mill Green and Adjali are all very smart hurdlers on their day.
Esprit De Somoza is interesting having won one of these races at Lingfield a couple of weeks ago for Gary Moore. He's up 8lbs, has drifted terribly in the market, and is currently available at best odds of 16/1.
Trainer Chris Gordon shows a profit from NH Flat races and Commanche Red won over two miles in a good effort here (Feb 2018) before progressing to hurdles and fences. He has been woefully out of form over fences this season and is drifting in this market today. He is very tempting at odds of 14/1. Backing one of the better-priced of these each-way makes a good deal of sense.
