The Markets in Crypto Assets bill in the European Union was signed into law yesterday (https://www.kitco.com/news/2023-06-01/EU-signs-MiCA-bill-into-law-setting-stage-for-comprehensive-cryptocurrency-regime.html)
I have been following cryptocurrency for a little over a year now, have been writing about it for a little over six months now, and believe this is the best single thin to happen to cryptocurrency to date!
From what I understand, the bill will go into effect at some point in 2024. I know providing structure for cryptocurrency is a good thing, but that is opinion that to me is based on sound human understanding. We need to have some sort of regulation for cryptocurrency to become widely adopted. I am looking forward to the day it is widely adopted, because for one, cryptocurrency is not going away, and secondly, I still believe that in general, the investments in some cryptocurrencies today will be like those in the early dot.com investment days. There is money to be made (my opinion, not financial advice) in cryptocurrency if you invest wisely without overextending yourself.
Now, I know for those in the United States, there is a lot of uncertainty in cryptocurrency as the president and some lawmakers are playing financial experts. It seems apparent to me they do not know what they are doing since they are talking about silly things and not real regulation. The SEC is picking and choosing winners (by the way, the Ripple lawsuit should be settled soon). Also, the supreme court helped out cryptocurrencies in an unexpected way recently (see my post here about it https://www.publish0x.com/twodogscaged/is-the-major-questions-doctrine-what-cryptocurrency-needs-xnnokdz)
Anyway, this is great news about MiCA being signed into law in the EU!
