I have had various conversations with friends and family about cryptocurrency over the past few years. Recently, I have a friend who approached me about investments and what to do with some money he has that he feels is underperforming in a traditional investment opportunity.
Now, first of all, I am not an investment advisor, and told my friend this. I told him I would not advise on investment in general, or cryptocurrency. However, what I told him was that I could discuss my crypto journey, how I think it is a good investment for me, and what my philosophy has been for cryptocurrency investment.
I found cryptocurrency after the death of a friend in the spring of 2022. At that time I began to think about our friendship, where we started from and how it ended with his death. One thing in particular that kept popping up in my mind was how we had a great life and friendship, but also how limited of an opportunity we have on this earth. I think back to all of the missed opportunities we had financially because we were not taught financial literacy, and we did not have the forethought to seek it out ourselves. To keep it short, his death left his family hurting, not because he was not a hard worker, or that he was poor with money, it was because we had not learned how to use our assets to improve our situations.
This, coincidentally led me to think about cryptocurrency and one particular story I had heard around the time of his death. the story I heard was that if a person had invested in Shiba Inu a two dollar sum, they would have been millionaires in January 2021. Now, I am a reasonable individual, and know that this type of thing is generally not realistic, but it got me thinking. I spent a few months reading and learning about cryptocurrency and realized, if done well, there was something there, and if done recklessly, I could lose a lot.
So, I eventually invested in my first of many cryptocurrencies, and coincidentally, the time I became interested in cryptocurrency the market was down significantly from it's peak. So, in essence, I got lucky with my timing and bought cryptocurrency at really low prices. I am not bragging, and I am not rich because I really invested minimal amounts considering there are whales out there, but I am up three times my original investment so far. I am lucky.
I told all of this to my friend, one who I had mentioned cryptocurrency a few times over the past few years, and who at those times had no time for the conversation about cryptocurrency, and definitely had not time for investing in it, now is open to it.
I call that a win, and a lot of fun.
We will be meeting soon to discus investing and cryptocurrency in more depth soon. Here's to the future, and here's to the growth of thought!
