Artificial intelligence and the future of professions.

Artificial intelligence and the future of professions.

There is no denying that technology and artificial intelligence have brought us many new things and improved the efficiency of many things in many areas, but, on the other hand, we are beginning to realize that their efficiency in relation to humans has become a frightening differentiator. In the past, machines did not think, so a human being was needed to operate them. Even though it is a very direct and simple example, I can say that this is how I have always seen the relationship between man and machine.

It turns out that machines now think, they practically do everything by themselves, with a simple initial command they start doing what they are programmed to do and perhaps they don't even need to be maintained or have a person there to check if everything is correct. This autonomy is what makes us think about our jobs, after all, machines with AI don't get sick, don't miss work, don't have family problems that end up harming their mind and so they can maintain a constant performance. It's all very scary, isn't it?

Now, which courses or professions could be affected by this? Which would be the most affected? Well, I can't say about other areas, but in the area of information technology, which is mine, I can say that I have a growing fear of what it will be like. People take technical courses or specialized colleges, seeking knowledge in programming, hardware, networks, infrastructure, cybersecurity and so on, but an AI can basically do all of this too, right? Even in the physical aspect, we have examples of several robots that have legs, hands, hooks, strength, all of this could end up replacing us, right?

The future is uncertain, in my profession as a programmer, not even a course is so necessary nowadays. If before we already had Google as a teacher, with a ChatGPT everything became easier, faster and I can even be replaced one day. Even so, I still see many colleagues in the profession seeking more knowledge, more courses, more diplomas, and that's good. Of course, learning more is always important in our lives. But I think that even so, it's difficult to overcome the future, AI, and all its possibilities.

I believe that yes, the programming profession is at risk to a certain extent. In general, I think that people who will be affected by AI should always be trying something new while there's still time. Whether it's taking more courses and becoming so specialized in something that even an AI might not be able to surpass you, or even taking advantage of it and trying other careers, other courses in parallel, although it's hard not to find a place where there's a machine that can do your job 100 times better and faster. I would say that investing is also a possibility, creating financial freedom that prevents you from being tied to a job or something like that.

In these times, it's necessary to undertake, seek something new, create something today that will help you in the future if your job is taken by an AI. I think that countless areas are at risk, and it's difficult to know how to deal with or accept it. I think we need to remain calm, that some laws that protect people's jobs are created and put into practice, but, as said, the future is incredible, but uncertain, frightening, it is something that not even the most brilliant of minds can predict with accuracy.
