I’m impressed by how my son’s memory works. It strikes him at random moments and holds him captive for the rest of the day. We visited Kagoshima Aquarium last December, of which the highlight was the dolphin show. Look at them soar! The other day, he decided to create his dolphin show using LEGO blocks. I was amused by his level of enthusiasm - so much so that I compiled my notes about adaptations on dolphins here.
Adaptations of Dolphins
- Dolphins have breathing holes or blowholes on top of their heads. This helps them breathe while the rest of their body is still underwater as only the blowholes are above the water surface.
- Dolphins have a tail which helps thrust them forward in the water.
- Dolphins have special flaps that cover their blowholes while they are underwater. This prevents water from entering their lungs. They are able to hold their breaths for a longer time as they store more oxygen in their muscles and other body parts.
