A couple of years ago I took a trip to Western Vietnam to a place called Rạch giá to do some volunteer English Teaching. To be honest, it was pretty poorly organised and I ended up doing about 20 hours of travel on a weekend to teach for 2 hours, but hey, that's life.
It was actually a little village outside of Rạch giá whose name I can't remember. There were about 50 kids there who rarely if ever got to speak with a foreigner, so that was pretty cool.
It was a Catholic school we went to and the Priests, nuns and teaching staff were all really nice. I was surprised at how many Catholics there were in the area. They explained that after the war, many Catholics moved south to avoid persecution and a lot settled in this area.

Vietnam is a fascinating place, well worth a visit.
