When you engage in a debate with someone, pay close attention to how they conduct themselves. If the general strategy of your opponent is to: rebut an argument by twisting and adding to your words until it is a different argument; briefly mention things that may support your argument and tell you they no longer count; rapidly move to a new topic and, finally; insult or otherwise attempt to damage your credibility instead of the credibility of your statement; there is a good chance you are debating an atheist or a politician, and a 100% chance that your position is the right one. Unable to defeat your argument on the basis of merit, your opponent has no choice but to attempt to make the argument seem stupid by making absurdist comparisons and arguing semantics rather than facts. Words and terms like "fallacy, idiotic, ludicrous, close-minded, ignorant," and others will be fired like shotgun blasts in the wild hope that at least one pellet will poke a hole somewhere in your argument, or at least appear to do so. If your opponent must resort to trying to humiliate or shame you into silence, it is because they can't beat you on fact alone.
