I have been using Hive for a few months now, but recently I have created a situation for myself where I could only do one or two things per day.
What is HIVE?
Hive is an innovative and forward-looking decentralized blockchain and ecosystem, designed to scale with the widespread adoption of the currency and platforms in mind. By combining the lightning-fast processing times and fee-less transactions, Hive is positioned to become one of the leading Web3 blockchains used by people around the world.
Simply speaking Hive is a unique blockchain that does not depend on the mining (or staking) instead of utilising resource credits. What is important is that Hive allows a small number of actions without any gas fee or mining/staking requirements. The kind of the equivalent of gas is Resource Credit.
What is Resource Credit?
is the limit of data each account can utilize resources on the blockchain (also known as RC)
In plain English, it is your gas resource. Or rather it is a virtual cost of the CPU, state memory and size of the Hive blockchain computer. The result is that you have to pay (like gas) for your actions on the blockchain. The main difference is that RC will recover over time. (Read more about it here)[https://developers.hive.io/tutorials-recipes/rc-bandwidth-system.html]
Additionally, there is the possibility to increase the RC level. This could be done by staking HIVE in the process called power-up. And this is important part of this story.
How did I screw up?
For a long time, I have had a quite stable 20 Hive, powered up. In an attempt to improve my Actifit account, I have delegated most of my HP to it.
As a result, my RC dropped to a standard, a new starter level. Of course, I did not realize the implication of what I have done and I have continued business as usual. Unfortnetyl after a few posts, my Rc dropped to a below 20% level and killed my activities on Hive for a few days.
Thanks to that I have discovered how important is RC, as well as that all actions on Hive takes time.
Solutions
As I am not able to put more money into Hive at the time. I have only two solutions.
The first was to wait 4 days for my RC to recover. I was planning to do so but my daily activity included daily posts to Actifit and playing Splinterland caused me to gain around 5% of RC instead of 20%.
The second option, the one I have taken, was to decrease the amount of Hive Power delegates to Actifit. Unfortunately for me, this was a time I have discovered that returning delegated HP takes around 3 days, I was not the happiest person in the world about that.
What should you do as a beginner in Hive.
The lesson from my f**k up is to always read instructions before doing something, you might burn if after reading as well, and to keep a few Hive and/or HP if you want to follow your daily hive activity, and belive me the more you use Hive blockchain the more Power you will need.
