Changes to benefit content creators on Publish0x, it is all about the view

A few days ago I wrote a post about some of the changes I would like Publish0x to make, in order for it to become better. At least better for me. =) I then eluded to a second post, this is that post. Here I will cover changes to the views in all their shapes and sizes.

Feature for views pertaining to posts

There are a few things I would like to be added either in the setting or as an on/off toggle. The first one is I would like to be able to eliminate my own views from the view total of a post. This is because, if you answer the comments, try to do it regularly. You tend to open up a post several times, adding to the view total each time. To see better how many views a post has, I would like to be able to toggle my personal views of a post on and off.

If this is too much of a hassle, to keep track of. I would like to be able to toggle between the total number of views, as it is now, and unique views. That would make the above feature close to unnecessary. Even if it would be interesting to see how many times you view your own post, I would say this feature takes precedence over that.

More stats

I would like to be able to go back in time to the publication of a post. And not just be limited to the last 30 days. In fact, I would like to be able to go back to the publication date of the post.

I would also like to be able to look at when the views occurred in more detail. Having the day divided into four 6 hours sections would allow for a better understanding and analysis of the posts. And I think that would be very beneficial for the writers if they chose to use it.

I think these two features would greatly help with the understanding of when to publish posts. Allowing both the platform to benefit from posts being published more optimally. And for the authors to be able to publish posts when it is more beneficial for them and their readers to do so. It harkens back to the old saying, know your audience. And I think these two changes would allow the autors to be able to know their readers more intimately if you will.

I do not want to view my own posts

I do not know how often this happens to others, but it happens to me quite a lot. And that is after I have tipped a post. I get prevented with three new posts that the site thinks I might be interested in. And for me at least it happens quite often that one of the three posts is one of my own. It has even happened one time that two out of the three were my own posts.

While the algorithm technically is correct in the assumption that those posts would be interesting to me. If not I would not have written them. It fails to see the irony of presenting the author's work to the author themself.

I think this would be an easy enough fix, and it would certainly enhance the overall experience.

Additional stats

I also propose the inclusion of two additional stats. These are the estimated reading time of the post, and the autour would also be able to see the total reading time of a post. I personally would think these stats would be very interesting to see and take part in. But I also understand that it is the change that is furthest away from the site as it is today.

If nothing else I think that these stats are not already implemented. Would greatly benefit the Publish0x team. It would be one extra metric to be able to quantify engagement from the readers. And I assume the more and better data you have the better you will be able to make future changes.

And maybe in the future, we would all be able to partake in this information. =)

Scheduling posts for publication

This last change I would like to see implemented ties in with the above changes to the view history. If we can better know when the different audiences are active. Then we would also need a tool to better be able to engage with them at the opportune time.

Allowing the authors to schedule posts for publication would help with that. And I would argue it is a feature worth implementing on its own as well. It would allow us to not be online constantly to publish posts. We could create posts in advance, and schedule them for publication. Without having to be online. It is a feature most content platforms have.
