Theta expands Academic Network with another US school
Theta recently expanded its Academic Network by adding Illinois Institute of Technology
That might not be a name you recognize off hand like an Ivy league school. However, they are well respected here in the USA. Illinois Institute marks the 33rd academic university member of Theta's academic network.
Illinois Institute of Technology is headed up by Professor Zheng
His responsibilities can be summarized as he directs the university’s PhD program in Information Technology and Management. Additionally, he leads the Center for Decision Making and Optimization. All while leading the lab governance and operations efforts.
While his lab focuses upon:
Modern AI research, building intelligent systems that are more adaptive and transparent. These efforts are performed in real-world environments rather than just performing well on benchmarks. All this work spans personalization engines, recommender systems, and machine learning approaches centered on how people interact and benefit from AI.
While Research in AI personalization and recommender systems tends to require a lot of iteration which brings heavy costs. Thus reinforcing Professor Zhengs's passion for Theta's shared GPU offering.
Now Professor Zheng’s lab can access GPU infrastructure and on-demand AI model APIs across a hybrid network that combines enterprise-grade NVIDIA H100 and A100 GPUs with community-run nodes and AWS infrastructure. And the teams can focus upon human-centric AI, personalization, and recommender systems instead of searching for GPU's to purchase and fight inflation price hikes.
Summary
Research labs working on computationally demanding AI problems need infrastructure that can flex with their workload, not fixed contracts sized for average usage. Nor do they have time nor budgets to chase rising GPU costs, Theta EdgeCloud brings a cost savings that other shared GPU models are not able to support by this many top academic requirements.
