Theta EdgeCloud expands in US by landing George Mason University
A few short months ago, I wrote about how I believed Theta's growth was lopsided with Southeast Asia being the majority of their partnership dominance. While the US adoption had very little presence and density. To Theta's credit they just landed a major US university, specifically George Mason University (GMU).
What is George Mason University?
It is located in Northern Virginia near Washington, D.C., specifically Fairfax County, Virginia. It was founded in 1949 as a northern branch of the University of Virginia. Then it became an independent university in 1972, and has become the largest public university in the state, with an enrollment of over 38,000 students. Know that GMU is a top 50 US research University. And recently ranked #18 in security according to CSRankings the premier computer science rating agency.
Theta Partnership with George Mason Universities SECSAT Lab
Security of Emerging Computer Systems And Technologies (SECSAT) Lab focuses on security problems in emerging systems and technologies, with a recent focus on:
- Decentralized Finance (DeFi/Web3)
- eXtended Reality (XR)
- Memory-safe languages - one example Rust
Why did George Mason Universities SECSAT Lab Partner with Theta?
One stated goal is to accelerate GMU's research in system security and privacy in projects such as confidential computing, and mobile security. Theta's EdgeCloud allows GMU to scale their security research. Additionally, enabling security testing based on blockchains and cross-chain bridges. These are very important issues in terms of getting crypto secure to raise retail confidence levels and further adoption rates.
Summary
Kudos to Theta for adding a Top-tier US research University, I stick by my statement from earlier this year that Theta needs a major win in the EU to bring balance to their global partnerships.
